3. The method trap - CE principle
or the search for the patent solution
The four questions:
1. What must I do?
2. How must I do it?
3. What must I say?
4. How must I say it?
These four questions are most frequently asked where there is a failure (missed target). It is
assumed, that the cause of the failure is wrong behaviour, and that new, right behaviour will bring success (attaining target). This
assumption therefore brings a desire for a method that promises success.
It makes sense to answer these questions in areas where procedures are well-defined, in which right and wrong behaviour is precisely defined. In areas in which there is no precisely defined behaviour likely to lead to success, answering these four questions may not produce the desired result.
Since thinking comes before action, the cause of success and failure must be sought in people’s mindsets. The CE principle describes
two polarised mindsets. One is always the cause of the success and the other is always the cause of the failure.
